Set Pieces
Set pieces, like counter attacks, have become a powerful weapon in the quest to defeat organized and sophisticated defensive teams. In the 2009-2010 UEFA Champions League a third of all goals came as the result of set pieces. With the margin of victory becoming smaller and smaller for teams at every level it is critical that set pieces, from corner kicks to free kicks, are well rehearsed and all players understand their individual roles. ASET hopes to better arm coaches with examples of set pieces that are being implemented at the highest level. ASET will diagram and explain each player's role and responsibility in the given free kick. The explanations of player movements will be given along with the professional team who attempted to score as a result of the given free kick.Documents

This set piece was performed by Uruguay in the recently played semi-final match of the 2011 Copa America. Uruguay scored against Argentina with this set piece. It was a central free kick approximately 40 yards from goal.

This short corner was performed by Juventus in the 2012 UEFA Champions League against Chelseas. The movement of the players consisted of setting picks for one another and allowed the kick taker several options within the same set up.
