3v3+3 continuous keepaway game. Once the three defenders win possession they must dribble outside the playing area. If successful, the team that lost possession becomes the new defenders.

The exercise starts out with a simple 1v1 game to goals, and adds a new player for each team every 30-45 seconds to a maximum of 4v4 (plus keepers), before reducing the team size every 30-45 seconds back to 1v1 (taking out the players who have been on the field longest first). This is a good variation on small sided games that allow for more touches on the ball, and helps players to recognize different tactical siutations - they will make choices hopefully based upon the number of players on the field that are appropriate.

This video demonstrates a game designed to look at defensive pressure and support, specifically how roles change during play. 1st defender calls for the ball by name, (so two people don't pressure simultaneously), 2nd defender tells the 1st defender which direction to force play (left/right, inside/outside - depends on the language your team uses).

This technical passing exercise features the YSC Union Juniors 1997 Boys and is conducted by YSC Academy director Iain Munro. The exercise is played in a 30x30 area with 14 players, but can be adapted to include more or less players. The players set up outside the area with four players with a ball in the box on the inside. The players on the inside dibble through the small box before passing to on of the players on the outside, switching places. This exercise can progress to include various combinations.

This 4 goal directional possession game features the Philadelphia Union U17s and is conducted by Philadelphia Union assistant coach John Hackworth. The game is played with 10 players on a 30x40 yard playing area. Two teams play 4v4 to two goals on each side, with 1 player from each team outside the area. The team in possession can play to the player on the outside to make a numbers up, 5v4. As soon as possession is lost, the same player must drop off the field again.
